Winter Break Housing

December 11, 2026 - January 17, 2027

All residence halls close for the winter break. Information on closing procedures and expectations can be found on our Move Out: End of Fall website. Below is information on Winter Break Housing for students who need to live on campus while the halls are close.

Eligibility, Application, Break Housing Location, and Break Housing Rates

  • To be eligible for winter break housing, you must:

1.) Have no holds on your account.

2.) Be registered for Spring 2027 classes OR at least one winter session class.

    3.) Have a Fall 2026 housing assignment.

If, while reviewing an application, a student is found not to be eligible for Winter Break Housing, their request will be denied, and they will be required to leave campus before the residence halls close on December 11 at 6:00 p.m.

  • Students apply for Winter Break Housing by submitting their Winter Break & Early Arrival Housing Application in the MyHousing Portal.

Applications are due by December 11, 2026 at 4:00pm OR at least three business days prior to a student's return to campus. Same-day application and arrivals are not granted. Applications are revived when the Office of Housing & Residential Life is open: Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Applications are not revived or approved on the weekends or when the University is closed on December 25th and January 1st.

  • Students live in their fall housing assignments during the winter break.

If a student is changing rooms for the spring term, the Housing team will work with the student on moving into their new assignment during the winter break.

  • Winter Break Housing Rates are applied to a summer resident’s account for the time they stay on campus between Friday, December 11th and January 17th.

    • Students who are not registered for a winter class or are not an on-campus student employee are charged $40/day or $280/week.
    • Students who are registered for a winter class are charged $20/day or $140/week for the duration of their class. If staying on campus outside of their class duration, they are charged the full rate. Registration duration is audited with the Registrar’s Office.
    • Students who are actively working in an on-campus job that does not require them to live on campus are charged $20/day or $140/week for the duration of their employment. Campus employment is audited with the Student Employment Office. Off campus employment does not qualify for this discount.
    • Students who are actively working in an on-campus job that requires them to live on campus are not charged for summer housing for the duration of their employment.
    • Student athletes who are in-season and are required to live on campus during the break for practice or competition are not charged for winter break housing.

During the Break

  • If a student needs assistance, they may visit their residence hall office. If the office is closed, there will be a phone number to call for non-emergency support.

If a student has an emergency, they are to call Campus Police 860-465-5310.

All University offices, except Campus Police, will be closed on the weekends and for observed holidays.
  • Students are to remain aware of severe weather alerts, watches, and warnings during the break. In such events, especially those that involve high winds, or snow, students are encouraged to close all windows in their room/suite/apartment. Damage caused to University property may be subject to damage billing if a student neglects to adhere to these precautions.
  • During the break, all policies, procedures, and guidelines in the Annual Housing contract, the student code of conduct, and any other such announced via the housing website and/or email are in effect during the break. This includes but is not limited to all alcohol/drug policies, quiet hour and courtesy hour policies, and guest policies. Violation of such will result in a student conduct process.
