Summer Break Housing: 2026

May 15 - August 11

Eligibility for Summer Housing:

To be eligible for Summer Break Housing, an Eastern student must:

  • Have no holds on their account.
  • Be registered for Fall 2026 classes.
  • Be going into their sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate years. Summer Housing is not available for students entering their first year unless they are in a university-sponsored program that requires on-campus housing.

How to Request Summer Housing:

Student may apply for summer housing by submitting an application found in the MyHousing Portal.

  • Applications are due at least 3 business days prior to a student’s requested arrival.
  • Same-day requests to arrive may not be accommodated.

Summer Move Over:

For students staying on campus immediately after the Spring 2026 semester ends.

  • Students transitioning directly from their Spring 2026 housing assignment into a Summer 2026 housing assignment will move into summer housing on Friday, May 22, 2026 starting at 7:00pm, when the RAs will be available to check students into summer housing.

Summer Move In:

For students leaving campus after the Spring 2026 semester ends, but are returning before August 11th.

  • Students who leave their Spring 2026 housing assignment and return to campus to move into summer housing, after May 22nd will be approved to arrive to campus between 7:00pm and 10:00pm, when an RA is available at the residence hall desk to check a resident in.

Summer Move Out:

For students leaving their Summer Housing assignment.

  • Students leaving summer housing before August 11th may check out between 7:00pm and 10:00pm, when an RA is avaiable. The RA will inspect your room and collect your summer housing key(s).
    • Students are responsible for the return of their summer housing key(s). Replacement for broken or lost keys may result in a $25 damage bill.
  • Students transitioning directly from a Summer 2026 housing assignment into a Fall 2026 housing assignment will move into their fall assignment on Tuesday, August 11th between 7:00pm and 10:00pm.
  • If a student in summer housing does not have a fall housing assignment, they will be moving to their off-campus housing arrangement on Tuesday August 11th by 10:00pm.

Summer Housing Rates:

Summer Housing Rates are applied to a summer resident’s account for the time they stay on campus between Monday, May 18th to August 10th.

  • Students who are not registered for a Summer 2026 class or are not an on-campus student employee are charged $40/day or $280/week.
  • Students who are registered for a Summer 2026 Eastern class are charged $20/day or $140/week for the duration of their class. If staying on campus outside of their class duration, they are charged the full rate. Registration duration is audited with the Registrar’s Office.
  • Students who are actively working in an on-campus job that does not require them to live on campus are charged $20/day or $140/week for the duration of their employment. Campus employment is audited with the Student Employment Office. Off campus employment does not qualify for this discount.
  • Students who are actively working in an on-campus job that requires them to live on campus are not charged for summer housing for the duration of their employment.

Meals During Summer Break:

Hurley Hall is closed, and the Student Center Caféé will be open for limited hours. Meal Plans are not active during the summer break. Students are responsible for their own meals during the break.

Student Support During the Break:

If a student needs assistance, they may either visit their residence hall office. If the office is closed, students may call the phone number posted at the residence hall or call Campus Police: 860-465-5310. All University offices, except Campus Police, will be closed for observed holidays and on weekends.

Severe Weather Alerts:

Students are to remain aware of severe weather alerts, watches, and warnings during the break. In such events, especially those that involve high winds, or snow, students are encouraged to close all windows in their room/suite/apartment. Damage caused to University property may be subject to damage billing if a student neglects to adhere to these precautions.

Policies & Procedures:

During the break, all policies, procedures, and guidelines in the Annual Housing contract, the student code of conduct, and any other such announced via the housing website and/or email are in effect during the break. This includes but is not limited to all alcohol/drug policies, quiet hour and courtesy hour policies, and guest policies. Violation of such will result in a student conduct process.
