LaMar Coleman (Interim President)
Karim Ismaili – Presidency Begins 7/31/2024

LaMar ColemanLaMar Coleman has been working in higher education for the past 20+ years and currently works as the Vice President for Equity & Diversity at Eastern Connecticut State University. In this role, LaMar oversees Eastern’s Affirmative Action Plan, Equal Opportunity Programs, Title IX (which handles sexual harassment complaint investigations), Title VII (which handles discrimination and workplace harassment complaints/investigations), ADA & Section 504 compliance (which handles reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities), institutional diversity and inclusion initiatives, professional development, campus climate, and mandatory employee training monitoring & tracking.

Prior to serving as VP for Equity & Diversity, LaMar worked in the Division of Student Affairs where he was not only the Director of Housing/Residential Life, but he also served as chairman of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee. LaMar also served on the Student Intervention Team (SIT), the Enrollment Management Committee, the Committee on the Future of Eastern (COFE), the NECHE Reaccreditation Self-Study Committee, and he was the University Title IX Hearing Officer. In addition, LaMar also served as an instructor in the First Year Introduction Program where he taught a course titled, “The Identity of Success”.

Prior to working at Eastern Connecticut State University, LaMar held various administrative and teaching positions at South Carolina State University, Florida A&M University, Western Connecticut State University, and Hampton University. He remains active in numerous professional organizations to include the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA), the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE), and the American Association of Access, Equity, and Diversity (AAAED), and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA).

LaMar completed his undergraduate degree in English Middle/Secondary Education at Hampton University, his graduate degree in College Student Development/Student Affairs Administration at the University of Bridgeport, and his Doctoral Degree in Higher Education Administration from New England College. His research interest includes minority male student success in college and his dissertation topic explored the development of social capital for Black males at a predominantly White institution.
