Kyle Sorensen ’16

Philosophy major Kyle Sorensen is teaching English in Thailand. “While philosophy is a field of study that trains students to think critically about issues, it is also a means to unexpected careers. Philosophy allows any student who studies rigorously to find alternative ways to engage with the world.”

Goldwater Scholar

Jacob Dayton ’19

Biology major Jacob Dayton was Connecticut’s only Goldwater Scholar in 2018. “This recognition is a testament to the strength of Eastern’s biology program and the value of the research experiences I’ve had.” Throughout his time at Eastern, Dayton has conducted leading research about migratory birds with his mentor Biology Professor Patty Szczys. He intends to earn a Ph.D. and pursue a research career in genomics.

Liselotte Hammer ’18

Sociology and Criminology double-major Liselotte Hammer is pursuing a master’s degree in sociology at the University of Bristol in England. “I had the best experience at Eastern. The classes were outstanding, my fellow students provided such a strong support system, but the best part was the professors. Every single one of them went out of their way to make sure their students understand the material.”

Genetic Counseling

Elizabeth DelBuono ’17

Biology major Elizabeth DelBuono is pursuing a master’s degree in genetic counseling at Sarah Lawrence College. Her internship at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine — where she conducted breast cancer research — solidified her career aspirations: “I was surrounded by some of the most brilliant individuals in the world, and was immersed in the race to find an answer, a gene, a treatment, a cure.”

Public Health Technician

Precious Baker ’17

Health Sciences major Precious Baker is a public health technician for the Connecticut Air National Guard, a patient care technician at Windham Hospital and a graduate student in public health at UConn. “Eastern’s health sciences program taught me the foundations of public health and developed my writing and critical thinking skills.”

Master’s in Occupational Therapy

Rachel DiNatalie ’18

Health Sciences major Rachel DiNatalie is pursuing a master’s degree in occupational therapy at Sacred Heart University. “The opportunities I’ve had at Eastern have affirmed my decision to pursue a career in the healthcare industry and prepared me for graduate school to become an occupational therapist.”

Alejandro is pursuing a doctorate of physical therapy at the University of Hartford. “My experience with the health sciences program was exceptional. The well-organized curriculum allowed me to attain the knowledge to be accepted into my doctorate program.”

Justin Brown ’09

A former research fellow at Harvard Medical School, Justin was recently selected to lead the Cancer Metabolism Research Program at Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation in Louisiana. “Eastern provides an environment that is intellectually engaging, culturally diverse and socially enriching. It is my professional opinion that the faculty in the KPE department are among the best educators in the country.”

Ying Chen ’15

Accounting major Ying Chen is a tax accountant at Fiondella, Milone and Lasaracina LLP. “The accounting program at Eastern covered a broad range of accounting studies — taxation, informational accounting, governmental and non-profit accounting and so on. My educational experience at Eastern prepared me well to become a tax accountant in an accounting firm.”
