Housing Placement Process for Incoming New Students

Housing Application & Placement Process For Incoming New & Transfer Students:

Welcome home, Warriors! We are excited that you're joining us for the upcoming year! To request on-campus housing, please follow these steps:

Students are NOT assigned to housing until both the non-refundable deposit is paid AND the housing application is submitted.

New & Transfer Student Housing Placement Process

  • All new students, including transfer students, must submit their non-refundable $250 Housing Deposit and their online housing application to be considered for a housing placement.

Please Note: All incoming First-Year and Transfer/Re-Admit students must also pay the $200 Tuition Deposit at the time the housing deposit is paid.

Please Note: Financial Aid, Loans, Scholarships and payment plans cannot be used to pay the housing deposit. Payment can be made in cash, check, money order, or online using various methods such as bank account transfer, debit, and credit cards (including Visa) through the student's eWeb account. The housing deposit is not subject to credit card transaction fees. The Housing office will not accept housing deposit payments. If paying online, please be sure to pay it as a deposit and not as a regular payment to the account, otherwise it will not show up as a housing deposit.

For step-by-step instructions on how to submit your non-refundable $250 Housing Deposit, please CLICK HERE.

There is no deadline to submit your deposit, however placements occur in the order in which deposits are received. To increase the likelihood of receiving a housing assignment and increase the chances of being placed in an area most preferred, it is suggested that deposits are submitted as soon as possible.

  • The Housing Application is completed online in your MyHousing Portal. We use the data collected from this application to record your hall preferences and attempt to match you with compatible roommates. It should only take a few minutes to fill out and we encourage you to apply today!

    2026-2027 Housing Application open now!
2027-2028 Housing Application opens in October 2026

We encourage parents, families, and others supporting students to have students complete this step themselves. This is a great opportunity for your student to learn the MyHousing Portal, which is used throughout their time living on campus.

  • New for Fall 2026: Incoming students can search for and match with roommates in the MyHousing Portal to increase opportunities for pairs and groups of students to be placed together.

    A Few Important Items:

    • Only students who have submitted both their housing deposit and housing application can use this feature.
    • New students will only be able to search for and match with other new students. New students are not able to match or be placed with upper-level students (sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduates).
    • Roommate matches must be mutual. Please see all instructions below to ensure a successful match.
    • All members of a roommate group are encouraged to ensure that their residence hall preferences also match. Roommate groups with different residence hall preferences will not be placed together.
    • We will make all efforts to honor a housing placement with your preferred roommates. There is no guarantee that pairs or groups can be placed together.

  • New and Transfer students will start to be placed in housing after the last Summer SOAR session ends in July. We offer this extended timeline as students often meet others they may like to live with during SOAR, resulting in changing their minds about roommate pairings and residence hall preferences.

New first-time students will be placed in one of the first-year student halls.

Incoming transfer students for the fall semester are assigned to spots reserved for transfer students on the 1st and 2nd floors of Occum Hall. Once the beds reserved for transfers have been filled, transfer students are assigned to any hall with openings.

When all eligible housing placements are completed, all newly placed students will receive a confirmation message in their Eastern inbox.

Fall 2026 Housing Placements are anticipated to be announced on July 10, 2026.

Eastern Connecticut State University does not guarantee housing. Historically, we have had success in assigning all students who apply and submit their housing deposit.

Mead Hall Changes for Fall 2026:
Eastern is preparing to welcome one of the largest incoming classes in the University’s history! This strong interest reflects the energy, momentum and close-knit community that make Eastern a special place to live and learn.

To ensure that as many students as possible who want to live on campus are able to do so, Eastern is adding beds in Mead Hall, one of our most popular first-year residence halls. Beginning this fall, Mead Hall suites will be configured as six-person suites, with three students in each bedroom.

Please see our Mead Hall page for update details.

If you would like to update your residence hall preferences based on this update, please see the directions on how to do so below.

Housing Accommodations for ADA Needs

  • Eastern Connecticut State University is committed to providing equal access to its programs, services, and activities, including on-campus housing. The Office of Housing and Residential Life works closely with the Office of AccessAbility Services (OAS) to ensure students with documented disabilities are able to enjoy accessible on-campus housing.

Students should make contact with the Office of AccessAbility Services (OAS) in order to schedule an intake appointment and to find out what medical documentation is required. If OAS determines a housing accommodation is necessary, they inform the housing office once it has been approved. Accommodations are not guaranteed (depending on time of notification and what is available) but we work to accommodate the student as much as possible given the available spots at the time an accommodation is approved.

Students pay the rate associated for the hall/room type they are assigned to regardless of reason assigned.

For more information visit the AccessAbility Services website

Room Changes & Housing Contract Cancellations

  • Students may submit a Room Change Request Form, when the room change process is open. Room changes are granted based on availability. If a room change cannot be offered due a residence hall being full, the student will be automatically added to our waitlists.

If a student requests a room change to live with a specific roommate, but the roommate is in a space that is already full, the student will be added to our waitlist.

Students are welcome to request "person for person swaps" where two students agree to trade beds with one another. Both students are required to submit a Room Change Request Form, confirming that both students agree to the trade.

The Room Change Request Process is CLOSED August 1st to September 1st. No room changes are granted during this time.

  • Students may submit a Housing Contract Cancellation Request Form to be considered for cancellation. Requests for the upcoming new academic year received by June 30th will be automatically approved. Requests received after June 30th will be considered by the Housing Contract Cancellation Committee.

Approval by the Housing Contract Cancellation Committee is not guaranteed unless a student is withdrawing from Eastern Connecticut State University, a student is studying abroad, a student drops to part-time status (with a hold placed on the student's account), or students registered for an internship or teaching experience that brings them closer to their permanent address than to Eastern's campus.

Troubleshooting

  • If you are having trouble accessing your Eastern Apps or the MyHousing Portal, please contact the HelpDesk at 860-465-4346, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm.

Important Information & Next Steps

  • For students living in on-campus housing: Connecticut State Law (Public Act No. 01-93) now requires vaccination against meningitis (Types A,C,X,W-135) for all students residing in on-campus housing. Important: State law now requires that students get a second meningitis shot if they received their previous meningitis vaccine(s) more than five years from the date they first start college.

Students who are non-compliant with this requirement will receive weekly emails starting on July 1, 2026. Students still not compliant as of move-in day will not be permitted to move into their housing assignment.

Please visit the Health Services: Health Entrance Requirements website for more information and to submit your vaccination record.
