Eastern Jazz Ensemble

Students playing jazz

MUS 113: Eastern Jazz Ensemble (.5 credits) This course is repeatable for credit.

Mondays 4-5:30

The Eastern Jazz Ensemble is open to any student across campus who plays traditional Jazz Band instruments (Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Bass, Guitar, Drum Set). Piano, Bass, Guitar and Drum Set players must be able to read standard music notation. This ensemble is a traditional Big Band that plays music from a wide variety of styles and eras in the jazz idiom. We focus on not only traditional jazz composers, but also contemporary and up-and-coming composers as well. Jazz improvisation is an integral component of this group, but not the main focus. This ensemble performs 1 formal concert per semester, but often performs in a variety of opportunities across campus. No audition is required for enrollment, however, auditions may be required on a section by section basis if interest exceeds need.

For more information on the ensemble, please contact Prof. Anthony Cornicello.
