Keyboard Proficiency Requirements

Part I: One Prepared Solo Piece 

  • The piece should have a minimum difficulty level in line with the following source: List A or List B from the Royal Conservatory Piano Syllabus Level 2.

Part II: Major Scales and Chord Progression

  • C major, G major, D major, A major, E major
  • Memorized and hands together in 2 octaves
  • For scale fingering, please refer to one of the following 2 sources:
    • Appendix B Part 1 of Keyboard Musicianship: Piano for Adults Book One by James Lyke, et al. (Stipes Publishing, 2019)
    • See the link for major scales.
  • Linked chord progression, in all the major keys listed above.

Part III: Minor Scales and Chord Progression

  • C harmonic minor, G harmonic minor, D harmonic minor, A harmonic minor, E harmonic minor
  • Memorized and hands together in 2 octaves
  • For scale fingering, please refer to one of the following 2 sources:
    • Appendix B Part 2 of Keyboard Musicianship: Piano for Adults Book One by James Lyke, et al. (Stipes Publishing, 2019)
