This annual celebration provides an opportunity to recognize publicly the accomplishments of Eastern's extraordinarily talented and dedicated faculty. Faculty research, scholarship, and creative work is often invisible, and by bringing that work forward, we celebrate our faculty and hope to spark ideas and connections as you learn more about one another’s work. From analyses of feminist writers to ethnomusicology to direction of theatre productions to new techniques for studying scorpion venom, the work of Eastern’s faculty is wide-ranging and innovative. The teacher-scholar model exemplified by our faculty is at the heart of our institution and aligns closely with Eastern’s liberal arts mission. Indeed, much of the work we are celebrating today has been made stronger by the scholarly community at Eastern: it is interdisciplinary, inspired by shared interests, and created in collaboration with other faculty and/or students. Faculty, we are grateful for all that you do, and we are so fortunate to have you here at Eastern.

A new book by Professor Emerita Anna D. Jaroszyńska-Kirchmann explores how pierogi, a trademark of Polish cuisine, traveled from Poland to the United States and evolved into a symbol of Polish-American identity.
Twenty-nine Eastern students studied tropical ecology in Costa Rica and mountainous geology in northern New England during two global field courses (GFCs) this summer. Led by Eastern faculty, the students included 12 biology majors (Costa Rica) and 17 environmental earth science (northern New England) majors.
Eastern Connecticut State University has earned a STARS silver rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System, measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.
