The Writing Program helps students to learn how writing shapes and aids their thinking; to understand the cultures and conventions of their disciplines; and to become better, more confident writers in the worlds they will enter when they graduate. After writing an initial placement essay, Eastern students complete the three stages of the Writing Program. (Students entering with fewer than 75 credits are required to complete all three stages of the writing requirements.)

  • Stage 1: English 100 or 100P
  • Stage 2: Writing-intensive course within major
  • Stage 3: One writing-intensive course at the 300- or 400-level
