Test-Optional Policy

For almost a decade, Eastern has been a test-optional institution. This means that students do not have to submit SAT/ACT scores if they do not believe that the scores are reflective of their academic achievement or potential. Test scores will only be factored into the review process if they will have a favorable impact on a student’s admission or eligibility for merit scholarships. Students may select at the time of application whether they would like their test scores to be considered as part of their admission review.

Students applying with or without test scores will be reviewed holistically and are eligible for merit scholarships. Students applying with their test scores should request official scores be sent from College Board directly to Eastern. We also accept scores as official if they are sent from the school counselor.

If you have questions about our test-optional policy, please contact our Office of Admissions at (860) 465-5286 or admissions@easternct.edu.

Test-Optional FAQs:

May I submit my test scores if I desire to do so?
Students who believe their SAT or ACT scores accurately represent their academic ability and potential and strengthen their overall application are encouraged to submit their standardized test scores.

If I submit my test sores, what should I submit?
Eastern will superscore your SAT or ACT scores, meaning we will consider the highest score you have earned on each section of the test (even if your highest scores were on different test dates). Please consider all of your highest individual SAT or ACT results before choosing not to submit your scores.

Are there any first-year applicants who must submit standardized test scores?
Students who apply for the Honors Program are required to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of their applications.

Should transfer students submit standardized test scores?
SAT or ACT test scores are optional and used only for course placement for transfer students.

Should international students submit test scores?
Yes. If an international student chooses not to submit SAT scores, the applicant is required to submit either TOEFL or IELTS English Language test scores with their application. If an international student chooses to submit their SAT scores, TOEFL/IELTS scores are not required.
