History and Political Science double major Adam Murphy recently returned from his second consecutive summer in Indonesia. While he makes plan for future travel and study, he took some time to reflect on his experiences, which took him from Eastern to Southeast Asia. “Shortly after graduation I traveled to Salatiga, Indonesia on the island of Java to take part in a 9-week Fulbright-Hays program for Language/Cultural immersion called COTI Summer Studies. In addition to taking language classes, I have been conducting a field project with a local Islamic university and their rural development programs. As the program comes to an end, one of my most memorable and rewarding experiences has been helping teach English in a middle school nearby to my university. I cannot be more grateful to the professors of Eastern who have been nothing but supportive and helpful in my academic progress. I cannot emphasize enough to current students to take advantage of opportunities abroad.”
