Business Information Systems Major Learning Outcomes

  • Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems, students will be able to:

    • Classify the components, elements, operations and impact of information systems
    • Interpret the dimensions, characteristics and value of quality information
    • Recommend techniques for using information and knowledge for business decision making and strategic value
    • Analyze a business case and critique appropriate information systems solutions to common business problems, based on the different components, elements, types and levels of information systems
    • Demonstrate an ability to solve basic computational and design problems using information systems development with appropriate methodologies, software tools, and innovative methods for improving processes and organizational change
  • Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems, students will be able to demonstrate critical thinking by:

    • Identifying and stating a problem or issue to be addressed;
    • Analyzing and evaluating complex ideas, artifacts, information, and arguments that can address the problem or issue;
    • Stating and assessing the assumptions and limitations of ideas, artifacts, information, and arguments that can address the problem or issue; and
    • Formulating well-reasoned beliefs, judgments, or conclusions.
  • Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems, students will be able to demonstrate ethical reasoning by:

    • Recognizing ethical issues;
    • Identifying their own ethical positions;
    • Analyzing other ethical positions; and
    • Considering the impact of decisions and actions on other individuals, society, and the environment.
  • Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems, students will be able to demonstrate communication by:

    • Recognizing and utilizing the most appropriate means to address specific audiences; and
    • Employing communication methods relevant to specific contexts or genres to effectively inform or persuade.
  • Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems, students will be able to demonstrate quantitative literacy by:

    • Interpreting and explaining information presented in quantitative forms (e.g. equations, graphs, diagrams, tables);
    • Converting information into quantitative forms when required;
    • Creating arguments and arriving at judgments based on quantitative analysis of data; and
    • Expressing quantitative evidence in support of arguments
  • Upon completion of a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems students will be able to:

    • Provide a clearly articulated vision statement for the team so that it will be able to work towards a common goal
    • Create a work breakdown structure, a task dependency model and a project schedule for a project
    • Allocate project tasks to project resources in an equitable and achievable way
    • Work effectively in teams to develop information systems solutions
