Scholarships

Scholarships are considered gift aid, or "free money," because they do not have to be repaid. It is important to research and apply for scholarships that you qualify for to help pay towards your education. Receiving scholarships can help minimize the out of pocket expenses and lower the need to borrow student loans.

  • The State of Connecticut also makes available The Governor’s Scholarship Program Scholarship (also called the Roberta B. Willis Need-Merit Scholarship Program).  It is open to any Connecticut resident who is a high school senior or graduate with a high school junior year class rank of 20% or better and/or SAT scores of at least 1200 or ACT score of at least 25.  Recipient must attend a four-year Connecticut public or non-profit private college.

The scholarship provides a merit-based award to Connecticut students with the above outlined credentials who will begin college in the fall 2013 and beyond. A FAFSA application and scholarship specific application, which can be completed through high school guidance offices, are required by February 15th for the following academic year. The student must also maintain full-time status.

  • External Scholarships are funded by a variety of agencies and organizations external to the University. Students can search for such scholarship opportunities by using FREE resources and should never pay a fee to search and apply for scholarships. You can also check out our External Scholarships.

When students are notified about the award of external private scholarships (Not offered by completing the FAFSA or from the University), the Financial Aid Office should receive both the Scholarship Letter and Check prior to it being posted to the student's account.

Disclaimer: Various outside entities and sources provide the scholarship information posted on our website. Eastern Connecticut State University is not affiliated with any of these private organizations. We have no direct involvement in the selections, but will periodically update this list for students to identify potential opportunities.
