Sudha Swaminathan to Present Coding Research

Dr. Sudha Swaminathan will present CECE research findings at the June 2022 conference of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Dr. Swaminathan will present "Impact of Coding on Preschoolers' Math Abilities," which will describe the impact of coding robotic toys on preschoolers’ computational thinking. The presentation will share study findings about the positive impact of coding on specific math skills, children’s debugging capacities, and dispositions for programming.

Dr. Sudha Swaminathan is Distinguished Professor of Education and a CECE-affiliated faculty member. Her teaching responsibilities include early childhood mathematics and educational technology. Her research centers on young children’s emergent mathematical thinking, children’s use of technology, and teacher-child interactions. She has over 15 publications in journals such as Young Children and Childhood Education and has presented her work at national and international conferences on early childhood education, educational technology and educational research. She is the recipient of several grants, including two Spencer Foundation grants to study the effects of teacher’s interactions during children’s math-play.

ISTE is an organization for global educators who believe in the power of technology to transform teaching and learning, accelerate innovation and solve tough problems in education. This year's ISTE conference will be held in New Orleans.
