Undergraduate Research/Creative Activity Fellowship
The Undergraduate Research/Creative Activity (UGRCA) Fellowship program provides opportunities for students from any major to conduct research or a creative project with a mentor in their field. Fellowships are conducted during the summer session (Session A or C). Fellows have typically used the fellowship to collect more data on a project that is almost complete or to prepare a project for publication/presentation or exhibition.
To be eligible for this award students must be currently enrolled and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Priority will be given to students who do not have access to other funding sources for example from departmental funds or the Honors Program.
The call for applications for the UGRCA Fellowship will take place in the Fall semester. Formal applications will be due each Spring. The student and faculty mentor must apply as a pair. The announcement of award recipients will be made in early May. The student selected for this competitive fellowships (1 Research or 1 Creative Activity) will each receive a stipend of $1,000.00 and $250.00 to be used for their projects or travel to present/exhibit their projects. Faculty awards can be used for travel or a stipend.

Adella Dzitko-Carlson (MUS) worked with her mentor Dr. Christopher Howard in preparing a clarinet repertoire for performance and auditions.
Rachel Finch (BIO) worked with her mentor Dr. Patricia Szczys on finalizing her work for presenation titled "Investigating Population Dynamics in Roseate Terns"
2018
Kelly Bielonko (PSY) worked with her mentor Dr. Peter Bachiochi on completing and preparing her research titled "The Relationship Between Employee Resource Groups and Occupational Health Outcomes"
Emily Miclon (MUS) worked with her mentor Dr. Jeff Calissi in preparing a diverse concert of percussion repertoire to be performed at various concerts.
2017
Julia Leito (ART) worked with her mentor Dr. Alycia Bright-Holland to prepare a dance for the Thread City Project in Willimantic, CT.
Jolene Potter (PSY) worked with her mentor Dr. Mary Kenny to prepare a manuscript to be submitted for publication on her work titled “Perceptions of Rape Culture on a College Campus".
2016
Nicole Garcia (Performing Arts) will be working with her mentor Dr. Kristen Morgan on the project "Scenic Design, Two Gentlemen of Verona (the Musical)." The project will be completed during Summer Session C resulting in 3-D models of the sets to be presented at an undergraduate research conference and ultimately for the performance in Spring 2017.
Outcome: Presented at the 2016 COPLAC Undergraduate Research Conference at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
2017 National Conferences on Undergraduate Research, Memphis, TN.
Recipient: President's Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity, Eastern Connecticut State University 2017.
Jacob Dayton (Biology) and his mentor (Dr. Patricia Szczys) will also be working during Summer Session C in writing up the results of the research project title "Population Structure of the Eurasian Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybrida) a Species Exhibiting Demographic Expansion."

2015
Zane Lombardo (Mentor: Robert Collins) from the Physical Sciences Department has been selected as the Undergraduate Research Fellow. Zane will be working his project titled "Biophysical Studies of Fluorescent Protein Calcium Sensors."
Outcome: Presented at the CREATE Conference and submitted for publication.
2014
Manan Bhatt biology student, (Mentor: Barbara Murdoch) will be supported this summer in continuing his research titled "Identification of Cells that Produce Neurons in the Chick Olfactory Epithelium" for the biology department.
Outcome: Presented at the Eastern Colleges Science Conference, Niagra College
Jessica Patrizi also from the biology department, will receive the 2nd Summer Fellowship to prepare her work for presentation and publication with Dr. Barbara Murdoch). Jessica's project is titled " Can Extracellular Matrix Molecules Enhance Neurogenesis in the Chick Olfactory Epithelium."
Outcome: Presented at the Eastern Colleges Science Conference, Niagra College. Recipient of the CT NASA Space Consortium funding, Jean Thoresen Scholarship and Barnard Scholar. Accepted in Oseteopathic Medical School.
