Maheen Khan:

As I reflect on my internship experience at the Connecticut General Assembly, the opportunity to be an intern in this building has been absolutely transformative. Firstly, the warm and welcoming environment has truly made me feel valued and accepted. The culture of inclusively and openness from representatives to staff, has created a sense of belonging for me. One of the highlights of my internship was experiencing firsthand the process of legislative proceedings. I’ve been tasked with several responsibilities that allowed me to gain invaluable insights into the inner workings of state governance. Whether it's conducting research for bills, attending committee hearings, or drafting testimony, each day has presented new challenges and an opportunity for growth for me.

Enumaah Dadzie:

My time at the CGA internship has been incredibly enriching. I've built strong connections with peers from different Connecticut universities, broadening my network and creating genuine friendships. Going to the Capitol on a weekly basis has become a regular highlight and has allowed me to meet key leaders in state politics and gain insight into various aspects of government. Through diverse experiences like experiencing chamber sessions, visiting prisons, and observing committee hearings, I've been able to gain valuable education. Interactions with legislators, lobbyists, legislative aides, business professionals, and other professionals have provided unique perspectives and expanded my knowledge. As a CGA intern, I've conducted bill research, engaged with constituents, facilitated business funding, collaborated with nonprofits, and tracked bills, all of which have contributed to my personal and professional growth. Overall, this internship has been incredibly rewarding and has deepened my understanding of potential career paths.

Michaela Ellis:

I am Michaela Ellis and I am currently a CGA Legislative Intern for the 2024 session. As an intern, I am able to see first hand how the legislative process operates and I get to experience working at the State Capitol. It has been a great and fun experience being able to be in person at the Capitol twice a week, and I enjoy being able to see state Senators and Representatives in action. This opportunity has provided me with the chance to network and introduce myself to important people who can further help with future careers and overall build connections. Other tasks I have been able to take part in include writing testimony, tracking bills, attending public hearings, and attending session days where bills are debated!
