Standard 6

Standard 6. Unit Governance and Resources

Eastern EPP is housed in the School of Education and Professional Studies at Eastern Connecticut State University and falls under the leadership of its Dean. The Dean has the authority to lead, administer and implement governance over the programmatic offerings of the School. The Dean currently also serves as Eastern's Certification Officer. The EPP faculty are spread across two departments: Education (EDU) and Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE). Each department has its own Chair and Associate Chair who are responsible for the internal operations, budget, scheduling and staffing. Each education program is led by a program coordinator who oversees the course sequencing, staffing and program assessments. Select EPP faculty also serve as liaison to faculty in the Arts and Sciences content areas. These liaisons are responsible for sharing certification updates and programmatic changes.

The Dean is supported in his work by the Dean's Cabinet and the Graduate Division Advisory Council. The former is comprised of Chairs of all departments within the School (Education, Economics, Communication, Business and Kinesiology and Physical Education) and Assistant Deans. The Dean's Cabinet meets once a month and assists the Dean with policy and school-wide operations. The Graduate Division Advisory Council includes the Assistant Dean, Vice-President for Equity and Diversity and select faculty representatives from the graduate programs. The Council meets once a semester or more often, as needed. The Council advises the Dean on policy, practices and development of the Graduate Division.
