Major and minors in the World Languages and Cultures Department are strongly encouraged to study abroad.

Why Study Abroad?

  • Use your language skills in an immersive and native setting

  • Gain an in-situ perspective on  the literature and culture of another country
  • Learn about the importance of cultural context to languages and translation

  • Experiment with your language skills outside of the classroom - from conversations with your homestay family and trips to the grocery store to entertainment venues

  • Listen to and learn to differentiate dialects and accents

  • Experience and participate in customs, festivities and holidays that you might have only read about

  • Interact with peers from other countries to gain a new perspective on your culture, language and the world in general
