International Study Abroad allows students to experience the world and engage with the global community. Students gain cultural insight while living and studying along with students of a host country for a full semester, academic year or inter-session while earning Eastern credits.

Students can choose from study away pathways that align with their academic, financial, and cultural goals.

3rd Party Provider
- Students pay tuition and fees directly to the program provider.
- Across four providers, students may choose from more than 40 countries and over a hundred universities.
- Eastern financial aid and scholarships still apply.
Eastern's Partner Universities
- Students pay standard tuition and fees to Eastern and cover housing costs directly with your host university.
- Available locations include Scotland, Canada, Germany, and France.
- Eastern financial aid and scholarships will still apply.

Participation in a Non-Affiliated Study Abroad Program

If a student chooses to study abroad through a non-affiliated program, they should meet with a member of the Global Learning staff to review the process outlined below as well as complete the Notification of Intent form.

Notification of Intent - Participation in a Non-Affiliated Study Abroad Program
Steps to take as outlined in the Notification of Intent:
- Complete Eastern's Leave of Absence form prior to your departure.
- If you are an ECSU financial aid recipient, you forfeit that aid by enrolling in the program above and should inform the Office of Financial Aid of your plans (cesarde@easternct.edu).
- Review the Registrar’s policies and submit theRequest to Take A Course at Another Institution form.
- Make all arrangements related to your study abroad.
- Be responsible for registering online for ECSU courses before returning from your Leave of Absence.

Lauren Knowles ’23

Ireland

Catherine McCaffrey ’28

A sophomore majoring in Pre-Secondary Education and English, Catherine studied in Ireland in spring 2026. “I love the culture and tradition of Ireland, and I’ve learned so much about it through my classes as well as the people I meet while traveling around the country. I took a class on Irish folklore, where I’ve learned so much about what makes Irish culture unique.”

New Zealand

Lucas Walley ’27

Lucas is majoring in Communication, Film, and Theatre. He studied abroad in New Zealand in spring 2026. “My experience in New Zealand so far has been nothing short of amazing. Everything from the views to the people, culture, activities, and my memories here has made this a once in a life-time experience that I will cherish forever.”

Studied in Greece

Chelsy Poppo ’19

Chelsy studied abroad in Greece. “My coursework at Hellenic American University in Athens included a class called Athens Across the Ages. It was great because each session was held at a different location in Athens. It was intriguing to study there as a political science major since Athens is known as the birthplace of democracy and because of the current political climate.”

Carissa Robinson ’18

Art major Carissa Robinson studied at Florence University of the Arts in Italy during wintersession in January 2018. “My decision to study abroad was a huge step out of my comfort zone, but it was worth it in the end. This experience has opened my eyes to many new aspects of life.”

Scotland

David Junga ’20

Biology major David Junga studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in spring 2018. “Studying abroad has been the experience of a lifetime! Being in another country has expanded my mind, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and introduced me to extraordinary people. Every day I have the opportunity to try something new and explore a culture vastly different from the one I am accustomed to.”

Ireland

Daniel Brewer ’20

Business Administration major Daniel Brewer studied in Ireland in spring 2018. “In Ireland, everything’s different from my experiences back home — from class structure to social life. One of my favorite parts about the semester abroad program is that you don’t just meet and make friends with people in the host country — in this case Ireland. I have made friends with English, French and Belgian people as well. I also had the opportunity to spend a week in London.”

Italy

Alexandra Toffolon ’19

Communication major Alexandra Toffolon studied at Lorenzo De’ Medici in Italy in spring 2017. “Going abroad was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Not only are you exposed to a whole new lifestyle, you get to live in an amazing culture surrounded by people from all over the world. So far, I have traveled to four different countries all within one month. My classes are a little challenging, but once you learn how to balance school and a social life, it gets a lot easier!”
