All students enrolled in MAT 099, MAT 135P, and MAT 155P must go to the MAC. As stated on your course syllabus, MAC participation will be counted as 10% of your final course grade.
For MAT 099, 135P and MAT 155P Students:
Your grade will be based on the percentage of the required 12 hours that you complete. Note this is approximately one hour and thirty minutes per week, which is less than half of the time a student should be studying for a 4 credit course. For example, if you complete 16 hours then your MAC participation grade will be 8/12= 67%.
During the Spring 2021 semester you are required to complete the first 9 hours by the closing of the MAC on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 and the remaining 3 hours by the closing of the MAC on Friday, April 30, 2021.
Note that your midterm grade calculation will be based on completing the first 9 hours in the MAC by the deadline mentioned above. Again, student hours will only be recorded when the MAC is officially open!
Note that students will receive credit for a maximum of 3 hours per day in the MAC. Students are welcome to stay as long as they wish, but they will only receive credit for 3 hours.
Students should be proactive in keeping track of their required MAC hours. To assist with this, download the form: MAC Student Personal Tracking Sheet.
As part of the Academic Services Center, the MAC is here to make your Eastern educational experience as successful and stress free as possible. While in the MAC, students may be engaged in the following activities:
First, you need to bring your Eastern ID because you will need to scan in and out of the MAC. Secondly, you need to sign in and out on the login sheet in order to receive credit for the time spent in the MAC. You will only receive credit for your time when the MAC is open for business. You will not be credited with any time if you show up before the MAC is open.
In-person and virtual tutoring are available on a non-appointment basis. Virtual tutoring is also available on an appointment basis (see Spring 2021 MAC Schedule below).
The MAC does not guarantee that you will receive one-on-one tutoring. The volume of students in the MAC will determine whether tutoring occurs in small groups or individually.
You should make an appointment at Tutoring Services, also located in Library Room 108. Please note that when you arrive for that scheduled appointment, you will still need to scan in and out of the MAC and sign in and out on the login sheet if you are enrolled in MAT 099, MAT 135P, or MAT 155P.
Yes, the Mathematics Achievement Center is open during Make-up/Reading days and the week of final exams. All tutoring will be held virtually.
