Data Science Major Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts, principles, and overarching themes in data science/analytics while using appropriate quantitative skills to solve problems and make informed decisions.
  2. Through project-based learning, productively engage in multiple modes of critical thinking by identifying the problem, evaluating the variables, synthesizing research and data collected, and developing a plan of action to arrive at solutions.
  3. Acquire, combine, cleanse, manipulate, and analyze diverse datasets using the latest technologies, platforms, and techniques to gain deeper insights leading to innovative solutions.
  4. Communicate effectively orally, visually, and in writing using data from a variety of contexts. Contribute to the communication as an individual, as a team member, and as a team leader.
  5. Incorporate a holistic understanding in the use of analytics in organizational decision-making contexts, leveraging interpersonal and team skills with an appreciation of diverse cultural and historical influences, stakeholder groups’ needs, and individuals’ views of the world.
  6. Identify and evaluate ethical issues surrounding data usage and data-focused decision making and act in an informed and ethical manner in our global society.
