Publications and Graphic Design

The Design & Creative Services team produces publications that reflect the excellence of the University's students, faculty, staff, and alumni, while being produced economically and on time. NOTE: University Communications & Marketing concentrates its efforts on those publications that will have the greatest impact on the greatest number of people, particularly current and prospective students.

Graphic Standards

Guidelines on the appropriate use of Eastern's school colors; logo, seal, and crest; and other related graphic identity issues are under development. Contact University Communications & Marketing early

Publications and promotions materials take time to develop, so faculty and staff are encouraged to contact University Communications & Marketing as soon as possible to begin planning their projects.

Analyzing needs

What is the purpose of a publication or promotion? Who is the target audience? How will the materials be used? How many copies are needed?

Establish budgets

Any printing and mailing costs typically are a department's responsibility unless other arrangements have been made.

Write a draft or outline of the message

A client office or department is responsible for providing original, accurate content for use in publications, web sites, or promotions. Departments may submit text for editing or provide a rough outline that University Communications & Marketing can use to create copy.

University Communications & Marketing provides the following pre-production services:

  • Consultation and design
  • Copy editing and proofreading
  • Access to photography and artwork*
  • Print specifications and cost estimates*

* The cost of printing a publication and some photography services typically are a department's responsibility unless other arrangements have been made.

The major publications produced by the Office of University Communications & Marketing include, but are not limited to: Recruitment and marketing materials:

  • Student handbook
  • Commencement program
  • Annual Report
  • Advertisements
  • Course schedules

University Communications & Marketing also produces academic brochures, posters, and artwork for promotional items.

Publication Policy

Canva for Campus

As part of Eastern’s Design Services initiative, all students—and upon request, faculty and staff—have access to Canva for Campus, providing free Canva Pro accounts to support academic, creative, and professional needs.
