Opening Doors

Eastern recognizes that a broad, liberally educated society is vital to sustaining our economy and democracy. With approximately half of the student body being first-generation students, Eastern continues to make a four-year degree accessible, and opens doors for students to employers and emerging industries.

STEP/CAP: More than 100 new students participated in the 31st Summer Transition at Eastern Program/Contract Admission Program (STEP/CAP) in the summer of 2015. Read more

FUNdraisers: The Eastern community displayed its philanthropic spirit with a number of colorful fundraisers this past year. Highlights included annual favorites like the Plunge for Hunger, Bowl-a-thon, Jail 'n Bail and Tip-a-Cop.

JAX Labs: In the spring 2016 semester, Eastern began a partnership with The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) - a biomedical research institution - that included two high-profile lectures by world-class scientists: George Weinstock and Edison Liu.

  • Two high achieving biology students also completed paid internships with JAX at its facility in Farmington, CT. Elizabeth Del Buono participated in the 2015 Summer Student Program; Christina Welch participated in the 2016 program.
