On Wednesday, November 19, 3-4 pm in the President’s Dining Room, the World Languages and Cultures Department and the Latino Chamber of Windham will host a Community Celebration.
At the direction of Professor Angela Pitassi, students in SPA 231 – Spanish for Business partnered with local businesses, such as Willi Scoops and El Guanajuato Restaurante, and the Latino Chamber of Windham in a series of projects. Students applied theories and concepts from their course work to real-life tasks at local establishments, such as enhancing a business’s social media presence and assisting in the commissioning advertising art to negotiating pricing for giveaways.
This first-time partnership was a win-win! Students gained invaluable real-world experience in a vibrant business community and area businesses reaped the benefits of the student’s knowledge and efforts. In celebration of this mutually beneficial partnership, the World Languages and Cultures Department hosts a Community Celebration.
Members of the Latino Chamber of Windham, its parent organization the Windham Region Chamber of Commerce, members of Eastern community and other members of the Willimantic business community are invited to the celebration. The celebration features short joint presentations by students and partner businesses about their projects. A reception with refreshments will follow.
