Linda Lê’s Kriss

Cover of Linda Lê’s play, Kriss.

On Wednesday, December 1, at 3:00 pm, the Eastern Theater Program, University Art Gallery and the World Languages and Cultures Department present an immersive walkthrough performance of Linda Lê’s, Kriss

Kriss, the one and only play written by renowned French author Linda Lê, is a retelling of Aeschylus’ Oresteia that uses the Vietnam War as a backdrop.  This special performance was arranged to support the NEA’s Big Read project and the 2021 selection of Thi Bui’s The Best We Could Do.

Wednesday’s theatrical reading of Kriss was made possible by the professional connections of Dr. Michèle Bacholle, a distinguished CSU French professor at Eastern.  Bacholle, a scholar of French and Francophone writers such as Lind Lê, translated Kriss into English, along with colleague Dawn M. Cornelio.

Eastern performance and theater students, under the direction of DeRon Williams, and accompanied by graphic designs by Intermedial Designs II students and Kristen Morgan, bring Lê’s vivid characters of Famke, Kriss and Stan to life.  Audiences are transported back to the tumult of Vietnam War and left to ponder questions about ethics, philosophy, history, and literature.

Eastern’s special exhibition of Kriss is FREE and open to the public.
