Economics Major

Ian is a management/data analyst for the Delaware Office Highway Safety. He completed an M.S. in Economics and Applied Econometrics at the University of Delaware in December 2017.

“The faculty at Eastern care so much about their students. If you’re struggling, they work with you outside of class. If you’re looking for more advanced material, you can take on an independent study project. Faculty at larger research universities are too invested in their own work to take that sort of time for students.

“Economics Professor Jennifer Brown was my honors thesis advisor, and I spent several hours each week in her office discussing my research.  She also took the time to teach me more advanced statistical concepts not ordinarily taught in Eastern's economics courses.  Having been exposed to these concepts was invaluable in writing my thesis and in preparing me for my master’s program.  With respect to my thesis, I was given the Exceptional Honors Thesis award within my honors cohort and Dr. Brown was given the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Mentor Award at the CREATE conference in 2016, and the Outstanding Mentor award by the honors program in the same year.  She certainly earned those honors for the effort and energy she invested in me while I was completing my honors thesis.  I am grateful for the effort and energy she invested in me; even after considering the work I accomplished in graduate school, I am most proud of my Eastern honors thesis.

“In addition to majoring in Economics, I minored in Mathematics and Physics.  To this day, I maintain contact with Dr. Yankov, who helped me through the stresses I would endure during graduate school.”
