Spanish Major: Course Sequence

First-year students may place into the second-or third-year level.

It is recommended that Spanish majors study abroad after their second year. Courses taken abroad can count towards requirements and electives.

A score of 63 on the Spanish CLEP exam will provide 12 credits in the language, 6 of which will count towards the Spanish major (equivalent to SPA 210 and SPA 211).

First Year

SPA 110 Elementary Spanish I - 3 credits
SPA 111 Elementary Spanish II - 3 credits
LAC Requirements - 24 credits
Total: 30 credits

Second Year

SPA 210 Intermediate Spanish II - 3 credits
SPA 211 Intermediate Spanish II - 3 credits
LAC Requirements - 24 credits
Total: 30 credits

Third Year

SPA 310 Advanced Spanish I - 3 credits
SPA 311 Advanced Spanish II - 3 credits
SPA 430 Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages - 3 credits (Only necessary for prospective teachers.)
SPA XXX Elective - 3-6 credits
Electives - 18 credits
Total: 30 credits

Fourth Year

SPA 312/313 Conversation & Composition I/II- 3 credits
SPA 316 Spanish Civilization - 3 credits
SPA 318 Latin American Civilizations - 3 credits
SPA 320 Spanish Literature I - 3 credits
SPA 3XX/4XX  Additional literature course - 3 credits
SPA 404 English-Spanish Translation - 3 credits
Electives - 12 credits
Total: 30 credits
