Spanish Major: Course Sequence

First-year students may place into the second-or third-year level.

A score of 65 on the Spanish with Writing CLEP exam provides 12 credits in the language, 3 of which count towards the Spanish major (equivalent to SPA 211). 

A score of 4 or higher on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam provides 6 credits in Spanish, 3 of which count toward the Spanish major (equivalent to SPA 211). 

First Year

  • SPA 211 Intermediate Spanish II - 3 credits
  • Liberal Arts Core Requirements - 27 credits

Total for Year - 30 credits

Second Year

  • SPA 222 Spanish In & Through Social Media - 3 credits
  • SPA 310 Advanced Spanish I - 3 credits
  • SPA 311 Advanced Spanish II - 3 credits
  • Pre-Professional Preparation Course (choose one)
    • SPA 231 Spanish for Business - 3 credits
    • SPA 232 Spanish for Health Services - 3 credits
    • SPA 233 Spanish for Social Services - 3 credits
  • Liberal Arts Core Requirements - 18 credits

Total for Year - 30 credits

Third Year

  • SPA 314 Latino/a Conversations - 3 credits
  • SPA 317 Hispanic Cultures - 3 credits
  • Experiential Learning Experience (choose one)
    • SPA 470 & SPA 471 Global Travel Prep. & Voyages in Hispanic Studies - 4 credits
    • SPA 490 Internship - 3 credits
    • SPA 493 Community Field Experience - 3 credits
    • SPA 495 Field Experience - 3 credits
    • SPA/BUS/HSC/PBH/SWK XXX Spanish electives OR
      approved electives in Business / Health Sciences / Social Work - 6 credits
