Eligibility and Application Process

Anyone is welcome to apply to the program; however we will be evaluating applications based on meeting the NSF’s overall goal of the program which “is to assist universities and colleges in diversifying the nation's science technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to populations historically underrepresented in these disciplines: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders.”

Students must be:

  1. Incoming fall 2025 first-year students enrolled full-time at Eastern.
  2. Pursuing an undergraduate STEM degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Earth Science, Mathematics, Secondary Education-Mathematics, or Secondary Education-Science (Biology or Environmental Earth Science).
  3. Either a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the US who wish to enter non-medical STEM professions.

Application Process

  • Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Applicants must submit an essay, in 500 words or less, describing why you want to be a STEM major, why you would like to be an LSAMP Scholar, and how the program will help you achieve your career goals. Please include your name and Eastern ID at the top of your essay.

Applicants must upload their essay in their Eastern Admissions Portal URL: https://apply.easternct.edu/apply/status

Priority deadline: february 15, 2025!

Applications will be accepted and reviewed until all available spots are filled.
