I.3

I.3 Summarize programs offered at initial and advanced preparation levels (including offcampus, distance learning, and alternate route programs), status of state approval, national recognition, and if applicable, findings of other national accreditation associations related to the preparation of education professionals.

Eastern's EPP offers Initial certification programs in Early Childhood Education (undergraduate &
graduate), Elementary Education (undergraduate & graduate), Secondary Education (undergraduate &
graduate) in English, History/Social Studies, Mathematics, Biology & Environmental Earth Science,
Physical Education (undergraduate). We offer 5 Advanced programs in Early Childhood Education,
Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Reading and Language Arts, and Educational Technology.
All programs are offered on campus with fewer than 49% of any program offered as hybrid courses. The
only exception is the Advanced Educational Technology program, which is offered online. To date, all
programs (but for Secondary Mathematics) have been recognized by their respective specialized
professional associations. Early Childhood has been recognized by NAEYC through 2022; Elementary
has been recognized with conditions by ACEI through 2017 (and is being re-submitted for full
recognition); Secondary English has been recognized by NCTE until 2023; Secondary Social Studies has
been recognized until 2022; Secondary Biology and Earth Science has been recognized by NSTA until
2022; and Physical Education has been recognized by NASPE until 2023. Secondary Math, hitherto
aligned to the NCTM 2003 Standards, has been updated and revised to align with NCTM's 2012
Standards; it will be re-submitted for recognition once the required assessment data have been gathered.
Course outcomes in all programs integrate the candidate proficiencies outlined in our Conceptual
Framework and will transition to the recently EPP-developed Candidate Learning Outcomes (effective
Fall 2016) that are aligned with NCATE, CAEP and InTASC standards. Additionally, all course
outcomes are focused on meeting the foundational skills and competencies for teachers outlined by the
State of Connecticut as the Common Core of Teaching (CCCT) and the specific standards outlined by
the relevant professional associations.
