Dual Credit - Information for Students

Interested in earning college credits while still in high school?

Eastern Connecticut State University offers Dual Credit courses that could be a great opportunity for you! Check with your School Counselor to learn more and find out if your high school is a partner.

Eastern offers two types of coursework for high school student credit:

Dual Enrollment Courses: refers to courses running at the university that high school students may be eligible to take in addition to their high school courseload. Most students doing Dual Enrollment do so via the WHIP program, coordinated by Eastern's Advising Center.

Concurrent Enrollment Courses: refers to when a high school student is simultaneously enrolled in an institution of higher education (IHE), taking a college course taught by a certified high school teacher approved by the institution of higher education to offer the course at the high school site.

This web page deals with Concurrent Enrollment Course FAQs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Concurrent Enrollment courses are Eastern courses offered by teachers at your high school. If your school is one of Eastern’s partnering schools, your teachers can apply to teach Eastern courses. Then, students (like you!) can register for these courses and earn college credits.

  • By enrolling in Eastern Early College courses, students experience rigorous college-level academics while still in a supportive high school environment, helping them build the skills, independence, and responsibility needed for success in higher education. As officially enrolled non-degree students at Eastern Connecticut State University, students begin their college journey early and earn an official Eastern transcript documenting transferable college credits. These early credits can broaden students’ options, supporting goals like double majoring, graduating sooner, or studying abroad. While enrolled in an EEC class, students also gain access to select Eastern Connecticut State University resources, including library and support services, further enhancing their academic experience.
  • Eastern’s Concurrent Enrollment program is primarily open to Juniors and Seniors, with other students eligible based on their readiness for college-level coursework.

To participate, your high school must have an established partnership with Eastern and approval to offer Eastern courses.

Students must meet any individual course prerequisites, maintain good academic standing, and receive approval from their high school instructor and site coordinator.

  • Concurrent Enrollment courses have historically cost $25 per credit. Most courses are 3 or 4 credits ($75 or $100). Please contact your School Counselor for more information as tuition costs for 2025-26 have been waived for Concurrent Enrollment students.

  • Concurrent Enrollment courses will be recorded on an official Eastern transcript. These credit(s) may be used to satisfy requirements at Eastern. If you plan to attend another institution, please check with that school’s Admissions Office for transfer credit policies to determine the transferability of Eastern credits towards their degree requirements.

  • To receive credit for a Concurrent Enrollment course, you must receive a “C” or higher. Anything under a “C” will not be considered as a passing grade, and no credits will be earned.

  • If you choose to withdraw from your Concurrent Enrollment course, we can remove it from your transcript; however, we are unable to provide a refund since the request was submitted after the drop deadline.

Please fill out this withdrawal form, indicating that you would like to be removed from the course.

  • Eastern Connecticut State University does not allow retroactive credit. Students must understand that if they do not register online for all Eastern courses they wish to receive credit for by the posted registration deadline, then they will not receive Eastern credit.

Students are unable to receive retroactive credit for a course.

  • You can follow these instructions to activate your Eastern account.

  • In addition to having an Eastern account, you also have access to the following resources here on campus:

Advising and Tutoring Services: Students can request tutoring and/or academic advising appointments by using this link. This will enable you to request to meet with a writing, math or subject tutor or request to meet with an advisor to talk about how your credits will fit into an Eastern degree program.

You can also watch this video to get some basic information on how your credits will apply toward an Eastern degree.

The J. Eugene Smith Library: Please feel free to visit our library during open hours of operation. Click here to view the hours for the 2025-26 Academic Year.
