The Liberal Arts at Work

All major programs in the School of Arts and Sciences encourage students to learn by doing, in service-learning activities, (coordinated with Eastern's Center for Community Engagement), internships, independent study research and creative projects. Putting to practice the concepts learned in class gives our students a competitive edge for entrance to prestigious graduate schools and in obtaining jobs in their field of study upon graduation.

Students in the School of Arts and Sciences are key participants in Eastern's annual CREATE student research conference and exhibition event in the late Spring semester. Faculty mentors, family, friends, and students come together to celebrate student academic successes at this annual event in the Student Center and Student Art Gallery in Wood Hall. Students who take courses defined by their unique experiential learning activities, and participate in these various events can qualify to receive a Liberal Arts Work transcript designation.
