Tests for College Credit

    The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is the College Board's national testing for college credit program. CLEP exams are 90-minute multiple choice tests for which you can earn college credits at Eastern and many other schools.

    DSST - Test Center #9533
    DSST exams are frequently completed by students pursuing credits towards college degrees. Exams are available for both upper and lower-level college credit. DSST exams are 120 minutes in length, and college credits are earned for a passing score.

  • CLEP     
    $189 for Eastern students
    $239 for non-Eastern students

    • Exam Fee (College Board) - $93.00 payable online via MyAccount in the preregistration process.
    • Testing Fee**
      • For Eastern students - $100
      • For non-Eastern students - $150

     

    DSST     
    $200 for Eastern students
    $250 for non-Eastern students

    • Exam Fee (DSST) - $100.00 payable on test date – Credit cards accepted are Visa, AMEX or MasterCard. Discover card not accepted.
    • Testing Fee**
      • For Eastern students - $100
      • For non-Eastern students - $150

    **Testing Fees are non-refundable. Payment options: Check or Money Order made payable to Eastern Connecticut State University. Surcharge for returned checks. If payment not received, your test reservation will be canceled. Payment must be brought in with you on the day of your exam.

    *Note: If you are taking a CLEP or DSST and plan to transfer credits to a different institution, you must contact your home institution to inquire about credit acceptance/equivalency.

    • You must work with an advisor to discuss the most appropriate test(s) for credit, based on your educational goals. 
    • You cannot take an exam for a course in which you have already earned college credits.  
    • Passing score is required to earn credits.  
    • You may only register for one test per test date. 
    • Reschedule policy - $25 test date reschedule fee 
    • Tests start promptly at the test start time. Please plan accordingly, as late students will not be admitted into the testing center. Check in begins 20 minutes prior to test start time. 
    • Credits earned through CLEP/DSST exam(s) do not count towards Eastern’s residency requirement. 
    • In order for the credits earned via CLEP or DSST to count for a particular term, the exam must be completed by the last day of exams for fall and spring courses and by the last day of the term for summer and winter. If a student completes a CLEP or DSST exam after that point, the exam credits will be credited toward the following term.

      • Be sure the name you provide to College Board matches EXACTLY with what is on your ID.
    • CLEP exams are offered at our Willimantic location in the Academic Success Center, J Eugene Smith Library, 1st Floor, Room 145.
    • You MUST bring a valid ID and CollegeBoard ticket ID to your test date. You will receive this ticket ID when you preregister for your CLEP exam.
    • If you do not pass a CLEP exam, you must wait 90 days to retake the same exam.
    • If you have a disability, such as a learning or physical disability that would prevent you from taking a test for credit under standard conditions, you may request accommodations. Please contact the CLEP Coordinator for more information.

     

    DSST

    • You must bring a valid ID to your test date. You must also know your Social Security Number at the time of testing.
    • DSST exams are offered at our Willimantic location in the Academic Success Center, J Eugene Smith Library, 1st Floor, Room 145.
    • If you do not pass a DSST exam, you must wait 30 days to retake the same exam.
    • If you have a disability, such as a learning or physical disability that would prevent you from taking a test for credit under standard conditions, you may request accommodations. Please notify the DSST Coordinator, and complete the following ADA Accommodations Request Packet. This needs to be filled out and submitted to Prometric for approval.
