GI Bill®

  • To apply for your GI Bill you will need to first obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Once you receive your COE, make an appointment with the Veterans Affairs Financial Aid Representative.

Bring this certificate (the COE), your class schedule, a copy of your DD 214, completed data sheet, and a copy of your driver's license to the appointment.

If you need any help- come to the VETS Center, or the financial aid office.

  • To receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE), you must register and apply through ebenefits. The Veterans Affairs (VA) website has excellent guidance and answers to a lot of questions and contains the link for you to start your application: https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/apply.asp

For detailed instructions to help you navigate through the application and what to do with your COE once received, please see the COE & GI Bill instruction sheets in the “instructions section” of this site.

  • The 911 GI Bill, when transferred to a dependent, can be acquired by following the same steps that a service member would take to receive it. Follow the GI Bill instructions, which can be found in the “instructions section” of this site.

  • WAVE, or Web Automated Verification of Enrollment, is an alternative method to verify enrollment for the GI Bill. Traditionally, to verify enrollment for the GI Bill, you are required to call the GI Bill VA phone number once per month. WAVE automates this process and verifies your enrollment each month.

To sign up for WAVE, proceed to the following website and follow the posted instructions:

Tuition Waivers

    • CT Veteran Tuition Waiver
If you are retired or served over 90 days of active duty (other than training), you are eligible for the Veterans Waiver. Forms for this waiver can be found on this web site, at the VETS Center, or at the financial aid office.
    • National Guard Tuition Waiver
The tuition waiver is processed with your unit. Request an application through your chain of command, fill it out, and make sure your readiness NCO receives and submits it.
  • As a reservist you are generally not eligible for the CT tuition waiver. However, if you have deployed or have active-duty time over 90 days (not including training), you may be eligible. Applications for the CT Veterans Tuition waiver are available at the ECSU VETS Center, on the webpage, and at the ffinancial aid office.

College Credits for Military Service & CLEP Testing

  • To receive college credits for your military service, you must obtain your Joint Service Transcript (JST). This transcript will outline all the military experience you have. To get to the web site, google Joint Service Transcript (JST). Further instructions are available at the VET Center and posted in the “instructions section” of this site.

  • Because the Military Police training is centered around law enforcement, soldiers with this MOS are afforded credits towards degrees such as Sociology and Criminology. If you are a 31B but are not pursuing either of those degrees, the credits can still be obtained and used as elective credits. The amount of credits accepted can be up to 17 but may be lower depending on the educational institution.

  • The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is the College Board’s national testing for college credit program. CLEP exams are 90-minute multiple choice tests for which you can earn college credits at Eastern and many other schools. CLEP exams are available in English composition, mathematics, social sciences and history, natural sciences, humanities, marketing, management, sociology, child psychology, foreign languages, and other subjects. Search 'CLEP' on our website and find the exams, testing dates and locations.
