The Arthur L. Johnson Unity Wing at Eastern Connecticut State University, located on the ground floor of the Student Center, includes the Unity Wing’s three centers which are designated spaces for students to develop and embrace their diverse identities. Integrating with the student body at large is an underlying goal, with all three centers utilizing social media and student ambassadors to connect with student communities across campus.
The Unity Wing is named after Arthur L. Johnson, former sociology professor at Eastern. A renowned civil rights activist and columnist, Johnson passed away in 1999 at the age of 81, and was respected for his compassion and vision.
Faculty, students, community partners, and advocates gathered at the Student Center on April 9 to be part of Eastern's annual “Take Back the Night” event. Organized by the Women’s Center and SAIV-RT (Sexual Assault and Interpersonal Violence Response Team), the event was dedicated to raising awareness of sexual and interpersonal violence and standing in solidarity with survivors.
Eastern’s Women’s Center, Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS), and Office of Career Services hosted "Latina Excellence,” an event celebrating the stories of two Latina professionals from Liberty Bank, on March 27 at the Betty Tipton Room.
Eastern’s Student Center welcomed more than 200 students on Jan. 29 as the Office of Student Activities and the Arthur L. Johnson Unity Wing hosted their semesterly club fair and open house. The events featured 45 student organizations as well as the Unity Wing's three centers, displaying Eastern’s diverse offerings of extracurricular/academic clubs, community service organizations, and cultural havens.
