Meeting commenced at 1:00 pm – President Nunez

Motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting (Passed)

Governor’s Announcement Concerning Labor Negotiations

  • The Governor issued a press release on April 20, 2009 regarding a tentative agreement between SEBAC and the State of Connecticut (see handout)
  • The agreement will be voted on by all rank‐and‐file members of the unions next.

Website and E‐mail Announcements

  • AVP Sweeney asks that the committee review the website for any discrepancies.
  • The committee should encourage people to visit the website.
  • Website address – www.easternct.edu/budgetcommittee
  • An email account has been created for the committee to send and receive messages. AVP Sweeney, Karyl Bulmer, and Susan Antonaros will be the recipients of the emails. Outgoing messages still have a few kinks.

Draft E‐mail on Alternative Works $mart Submissions

  • A draft email regarding Submission of Works $mart Ideas was handed out. This email will inform the community that they can submit ideas anonymously either on‐line or with the form to be attached to the email.

Purchasing and Direct Payment End of Year Memo

  • The traditional letter that is sent out each fiscal year to notify departments of year end spending deadlines was emailed to the community April 16.

CSU Recommended Distribution for FY 2010

  • An estimation of the FY 2010 General Fund distribution was shared with the committee by AVP Sweeney.
  • Eastern’s share is expected to increase due to the increase in enrollment.

State Budget Update

  • There will be meetings with the Governor, staff, and legislatures next week.
  • We don’t know how much we will receive from the federal stimulus package.
  • We do know what our tuition & fee rates will be.
  • The number of retirements is still unknown.

Next meeting will be Tuesday, May 5 at 12:00 in the Connecticut Room, Gelsi‐Young Hall
