The mission of the Institute for Sustainability (IS) at Eastern Connecticut State University is to serve as an objective resource and champion for the transition to sustainable practices in Connecticut. The work of IS will support diverse and bold actions required by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and resilience: for people, prosperity, and planet. The IS will connect individuals, organizations, businesses, and communities in Connecticut to meet the challenges of our changing climate.

The Institute for Sustainability works closely with the Green Campus Committee to plan and implement sustainability initiatives at Eastern.

As part of the President’s 2022 call to action on Climate Change, the Institute for Sustainability is pleased to announce that the Provost’s Office will provide financial support for curriculum development during Winter Session 2022-23. The purpose of this initiative is to support the expansion of sustainability-inclusive and sustainability-focused courses in the new Liberal Arts Core curriculum and to sharpen our vision for a sustainability major program at Eastern. Details forthcoming in December 2022.

In addition to initiatives throughout Connecticut, the institute works closely with Eastern's Center for Sustainability Studies and the Facilities Management and Planning Department to promote sustainability throughout the Eastern campus community.
