Taking Courses at Another Institution

✅ Requirements & Steps

  1. Meet with Your Faculty Advisor or the Advising Center

    • Discuss the course(s) you plan to take at another institution.
    • Ensure the course aligns with your academic plan.
  2. Complete the Approval Form

    • Fill out the Request to Take Courses Outside of Eastern form.
    • Include a Course Description from the other institution.
    • Obtain all required signatures:
      • For Major or Minor requirements:
        You must get the signature/approval of the Department Chair or Program Coordinator.
      • For LAC/ELAC or general elective credit:
        You can submit the form directly to the Registrar’s Office without additional signatures.
  3. Institution Requirements

    • The course must be taken at a regionally accredited college or university.
    • Juniors and Seniors (60+ earned credits) must take courses at a 4-year institution, unless a valid rationale is provided and approved for a 2-year institution.
  4. Submit the Form

    • Return the completed and signed form to the Registrar’s Office before enrolling in the course.
    • Form does not require a signature if submitted via Eastern Email.
  5. After Course Completion (Grade(s) posted)

    • Request an Official Transcript be sent to Eastern:
      • If using Parchment, send it directly to Eastern Connecticut State University - Registrar.
      • If the institution does not use Parchment, have transcript sent to: registrar@easternct.edu

📌 Important Notes

  • A minimum grade of C- is required for the course to transfer.
  • Only credits transfer, not the grade—your GPA at Eastern is unaffected.
  • Courses taken more than 7 years ago may not be accepted. These credit may be applied at the discretion of the Registrar's Office.
  • You still must meet residency requirements:
    • Associate Degree: At least 15 credits must be completed at Eastern.
    • Bachelor’s Degree: At least 30 credits must be completed at Eastern, including 15 credits in your major.
