Course Description

Pre-Med Lab: How the Human Body Works

Have you ever been to the hospital and were curious about what the information on the various monitors means? What does this information tell health professionals, and how can it be used to diagnose disease? In this course we will explore the endocrine, neuromuscular, and cardiovascular systems in both health and disease. You will gain hands-on experience recording and interpreting common vital signs including EKGs for heart activity, EMGs for muscle activity, and blood pressure using a blood pressure cuff and stethoscope. Using these skills and the information you will learn in this course, you will diagnose various diseases based on case studies of patient symptoms and conduct your own authentic research project.

Open to students entering Grade 10, 11, or 12 in the fall.
