Eastern’s Communication, Film and Theatre Department presents 'Oedipus the King'
Information about Eastern's performances of "Oedipus the King."

The Communication, Film and Theatre Department at Eastern Connecticut State University is set to present “Oedipus the King,” a play written by Sophocles, translated by Brian Doerries, and directed by Bob McGrath. The performances will take place at the Fine Arts Instructional Center’s (FAIC) Proscenium Theater on Oct. 11-16.

The play tells the story of an overconfident ruler during a plague. He refuses to listen to advisors, denies prophecy, and finds out upon investigation that he is the source of the plague. He then loses his wife, crown, country, power and honor and is sentenced to exile, a fate worse than death in ancient Greece. “Oedipus” is a story of leadership, accountability, and the challenges that elected officials and citizens face during plagues.

Tickets are free for Eastern students; $5 for other students and groups of at least 10; $10 for senior citizens; $12 for Eastern faculty, staff and alumni, and $20 for the general public. Visit Eastern's ticketing website for information about the production and to buy tickets.

For reservations, call the box office at (860) 465-5123 or email theatreboxoffice@easternct.edu.
