Eastern celebrates Trans Day of Visibility

TDOV
Members of the Eastern community gather outside the Fine Arts Instructional Center in support of Trans Day of Visibility.

Eastern Connecticut State University’s Unity Wing and Pride Center celebrated Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) on March 31. Students, faculty and staff wore a TDOV shirt at the event and helped to celebrate trans students and bring awareness to the discrimination they face.

The event was led by Pride Center coordinator Nicole Potestivo, who shared her thoughts on the importance of the event: “It is important to highlight TDOV at Eastern because we want to celebrate, acknowledge and stand with our trans community on this international day of awareness,” she said. “I hope this event strengthens our community and deepens our understanding of what we are doing well and where we can do better by our trans students, faculty and staff.”

Eastern students were able to participate in several ways, including registering for a free TDOV tee shirt, taking a group photo with the shirts, rock painting with the Pride Alliance and attending two virtual events with Benjamin C. Kennedy, a transgender author, educator and activist.

Other events will be held this spring to bring recognition to LGBTQ+ individuals. To view the schedule visit https://eastern.emscloudservice.com/calendar/MasterCalendar.aspx.
