Fall Fest kicks off autumn at Eastern

Eastern Connecticut State University hosted its annual Fall Fest on Sept. 20–26. The fun-filled week sponsored by the Campus Activity Board (CAB) entertained more than 1,000 students who participated in a variety of in-person activities tied to this year’s camping-related theme: “Willi’s Lodge.”  Highlights included live comedy and music performances, campfire s’mores, axe throwing and more.

“It was great watching students come together to safely participate in an Eastern tradition,” said Alyssa Duffy, assistant director of student activities. “Fall Fest is something that everyone looks forward to, and we were able to provide seven different events throughout the week for all students to enjoy.”

The fest kicked off with Camp Eastern, an afternoon of activities on the Student Center patio that included tie-dye shirts, stuffed woodland animals, live music and an “oversized” photoshoot on a gigantic Adirondack chair.

“I really liked the stuffed animals,” said senior Karina Torres, “and how there were multiple opportunities to get Fall Fest t-shirts. The music and food were great. My friends and I got to remake a photo from our first year at the kick-off event!”

Later in the week, the Student Center Theatre showed the horror comedy film “Cabin in the Woods.” Willi’s Lodge, in collaboration with the Thursday Knight Café, featured a live performance by Free DAPS in the Student Center Lobby. College Campfire Night, in collaboration with the Student Government Association, offered s’mores and food trucks to students. Stand-up Comedy Night in the Geisler Gymnasium featured Chico Bean and B. Simone from Wild ‘N Out. Finally, shuttles of vans brought students axe throwing at the Adventure Park at Storrs.
