Asian Cultural Society leads #StopAsianHate fundraiser

Following the March 16 mass shootings in Atlanta, GA, and other recent incidents of anti-Asian sentiment, the Asian Cultural Society (ACS) is raising funds to support three organizations that serve the Asian community. The #StopAsianHate fundraiser will donate 100 percent of proceeds to Heart of Dinner, Asian Mental Health Collective and Stop AAPI Hate; AAPI stands for Asian American Pacific Islander.

“As an Asian American, I am deeply concerned with the rise in anti-Asian sentiments and worry for the mental health and safety of my Asian peers,” said sociology major Tara Nguyen, president of ACS. “Our Asian community is hurting and our hurt should not be invisible or ignored. Your support means a lot to Asian American students at Eastern and all Asian American and Pacific Islanders, which can make our country better.”

The fundraiser will conclude on April 5. ACS is selling masks ($10), t-shirts ($20) and hoodies ($35), which are able to be shipped nationwide. “Please share the fundraiser with whomever you can,” said Nguyen. Visit http://bit.ly/StopAsianHateECSU for more information.

Heart of Dinner is an organization that delivers hot meals and produce to Asian elderly in the New York City community. Asian Mental Health Collective works to make mental health care more accessible to the Asian community. Stop AAPI Hate is the leading aggregator of anti-Asian hate incidents and supports community-based organizations as well as advocates for policies related to AAPI protections.
