Neville Brown, associate director of financial aid at Eastern Connecticut State University, has been named the recipient of the 2020 National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) Regional Leadership Award. The 2020 NASFAA Awards were announced on June 3.

The NASFAA Regional Leadership Award exemplifies excellence in serving students and the financial aid profession. It is presented to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the financial aid profession at the regional and state levels over a sustained period of time. Honorees selected for this award must (1) exhibit high integrity and character; (2) have shown creative leadership; (3) have inspired and encouraged others to participate actively in professional development activities; 4) have continued active involvement in professional organizations after holding elected office; and 5) have supported the goals and objectives of NASFAA.

“Congratulations on your NASFAA award, Neville!” wrote Eastern President Elsa Núñez in a letter to Brown. “You have left your footprint in financial aid! This is a first-time accomplishment for an Eastern employee. Your decades of dedicated, distinguished service represent the highest values of service, leadership, professionalism and commitment to Financial Aid. We all are very proud of you and feel very fortunate that you are at Eastern!”

Jennifer Horner, director of financial aid, agreed: “The financial aid community and higher education community are better off because of Neville’s exceptional service over the years. He really deserves this award. His integrity and passion are impeccable. He has done a brilliant job of helping us to invest in the success of our students and to help them realize their dreams.”

“I am proud to be a member of our Eastern family and its Financial Aid Office,” said Brown. “Students really motivate me and nourish my spirit. It is that passion that compels both me and our entire team to set the highest standard imaginable to provide students the highest quality service possible.”

Brown earned his B.S. degree in Accounting, cum laude, and his M.B.A. from the University of New Haven.
