Eastern Alumna Starts Pathology Program at Quinnipiac University

Andrea Ferrigno ’19 has begun the Master’s in Pathology Assistants Program at Quinnipiac University. A pathologist assistant plays a critical role in helping the pathologist come up with an accurate diagnosis by dissecting surgical specimens and performing human postmortem (autopsy) exams.

Ferrigno, who majored in Health Sciences at Eastern, is the first alumna to pursue a career in pathology. “I’m so excited, as this career will allow me to utilize my extensive knowledge and passion for anatomy, in combination with studying the diseases we face as humans throughout our lifespan,” said Ferrigno. “With Quinnipiac’s well-established program and its connections with prestigious hospitals all over the country, I’ll be learning from the best of the best!”

At Eastern, Ferrigno received many awards, including induction into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society last year, and Phi Theta Delta, the Department of Health Sciences Honor Society in 2018. Every semester at Eastern, Ferrigno achieved Dean’s List and was named recipient of the Exceptional Academic Performance Award—the highest GPA in Health Science Major over her four years at Eastern. In addition, she served at a teaching assistant and engaged in extensive volunteer work in Eastern’s Center for Community Engagement and Academic Services Center.
