The Interconnection between Science & Creativity

On April 11 at 7 p.m. in Room 110 of Eastern Connecticut State University’s Fine Arts Instructional Center, Dr. Edison Liu, president and CEO of the Jackson Laboratory, will present a unique combination of musical performance and scientific lecture.

An accomplished musician and world-renowned cancer and genomics researcher, Liu will incorporate piano music to underscore his discussion of the common factors in musical improvisation and scientific discovery. Part piano recital and part lecture, this unique event will showcase how creativity and innovation in art and science impact all our lives.
Prior to joining the Jackson Laboratory, Liu was the founding executive director of the Genome Institute of Singapore (2001-11) and president of the Human Genome Organization (2007-13).

Before 2001, Liu held leadership positions as the scientific director of the National Cancer Institute’s Division of Clinic Sciences (1996-2001); the director of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Breast Cancer; the director of the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology at UNC’s School of Public Health; chief of medical genetics and chair of the Correlative Science Committee of the national cooperative clinical trials group CALGB. The event is free and open to the public.
