A Global Field Course offers an exciting opportunity for students to explore another country and immerse themselves in its culture while earning academic credit. You’ll take a spring course led by an Eastern faculty member, alongside fellow Eastern students, with the travel portion happening either during spring break or after the semester ends. These trips typically last between 1 to 6 weeks, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings while enjoying the unique experience of traveling abroad.

Student Testimonials

Applied Learning
Prague

Oliva Skerry ’25

Olivia was one of 13 Eastern students who attended the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in the Czech Republic in June 2023. “Being able to experience how theatre and art are made all over the world was a surreal experience. Besides the festival we learned a lot about Prague. We attended a ghost tour as well as touring the Jewish Ghetto, where we learned the history.”

Applied Learning
Creative Writing

Lilia Burdo ’24

Lilia was one of 17 Eastern students who traveled to Florence, Italy, for a six-week creative writing course in summer 2023. “My time in Florence was life-changing! I was able to grow both as a writer and person while immersing myself in a new culture. This was a great opportunity for me to get out of my comfort zone and gain experiences beyond U.S. borders.”

Applied Learning
Utah Hills

James Bragg-Phillips ’24

James was one of 11 Eastern students to explore the geology and landscapes of western Colorado and southeastern Utah on a 12-day field trip in May. “I learned a lot about the environment and geology. The landscapes were amazing and sometimes completely new to me.” The students “learned a tremendous amount of geology in a manner that will stick with them for their lifetime,” said Professors Peter Drzewiecki and Drew Hyatt.
