Officer Theriault earns Special Olympics recognition for Eastern Law Enforcement Torch Run supports Special Olympics athletes

Eastern’s Police Department has been recognized by Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT) for raising over $2,500 in support of the Special Olympics. The 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Level of Excellence Award was earned largely due in part to the efforts of Officer Nicole Theriault, who served as coordinator for Leg 3 of the statewide event benefiting SOCT.

BIS students prevails at Midwest computing conference Eastern’s BIS-ITSA club outshines competition

Ten business information systems (BIS) students outshined regional competition at the ITSA Midwest Collegiate Computing Conference (MWC3) in Grand Rapids, MI, this past March. Competing against larger universities with nationally recognized BIS programs, seven out of the ten Eastern students brought home two first-place titles, one second-place title, and one third-place title, along with two honorable mentions in competitions throughout the three-day conference.

Richard Detweiler discusses 'The Future of the Liberal Arts' Higher-ed expert explores long-term impacts

What is the purpose of the liberal arts in higher education: to prepare students for their first job, or to shape them into thoughtful, productive citizens in the long term? This question is central to the work of Richard Detweiler, Ph.D., author of “The Evidence Liberal Arts Needs: Lives of Consequence, Inquiry, and Accomplishment,” published in 2021 by the MIT Press. This topic deeply resonates with Eastern Connecticut State University, as President Karim Ismaili has recently been engaging the campus community in conversations about the powerful impact of a liberal arts degree. On April 1, students and faculty gathered in the Student Center Theatre with President Ismaili and Detweiler for a “University Hour” conversation titled “The Future of the Liberal Arts,” where they explored the lasting importance and real-world impact of a liberal arts degree.
