Latin American and Caribbean Studies Minor

Latin American and Caribbean Studies is an interdisciplinary minor specializing in the histories, cultures, and social structures of the region, which includes places such as Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil, as well as the American Southwest. Courses in this minor include:

  • ANT 225 Contemporary Puerto Rican Culture and Society - 3 credits
  • ANT 240 Latinos in the United States - 3 credits
  • ART 224 Latin American Art Topics - 3 credits
  • HIS 255 Introduction to Latin America - 3 credits
  • HIS 342 Modern Latin America - 3 credits
  • HIS 345 History of Mexico - 3 credits
  • HIS 346 Central America - 3 credits
  • HIS 347 History of Brazil - 3 credits
  • LAS/PSC 328 Latin American Politics - 3 credits
  • LAS/SPA 317 Hispanic Cultures - 3 credits
  • LAS/SPA 219 Hispanic Screen Cultures-From Film to the Internet - 3 credits

These courses may be supplemented by other Latin America-related courses from Eastern or other universities and with Independent Studies that focus on a Latin America-related issue. Up to six credits may be counted from intermediate (200-level or above) courses in one or more of the languages of the region, as well.
