Thomas Nevers Memorial Scholarship

The Thomas Nevers Memorial Scholarship was established in 2016 in memory of legendary Connecticut coach Tom Nevers, following Coach Nevers’ passing the previous year. After serving in the Army in World War II, Nevers earned his degree in education at the University of Connecticut where he was a three-sport athlete. He later earned a master’s degree at the University of West Virginia. Nevers coached soccer, basketball, and baseball at Nathan Hale-Ray High School in East Haddam for more than a decade. He then accepted a professorship at Eastern, at that time Willimantic State Teachers College, where he coached soccer, basketball, and golf. His soccer teams had 14 consecutive winning seasons and were undefeated in regular season and regional postseason play in 1968 and 1969. He was a member of four halls of fame, including Eastern and Connecticut Soccer. The scholarship, awarded at a minimum of $500, to students in good academic standing with financial need who participate in extracurricular activities.

Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA by March 1
