Dr. Juliette P. Burstermann Scholarship

To honor the late Dr. Juliette P. Burstermann, Eastern professor emerita, Margaret S. Wilson and friends established the Dr. Juliette P. Burstermann Endowed Scholarship in 1991. When Dr. Burstermann joined the staff of Willimantic Teachers College, now Eastern Connecticut State University, in 1948, she became the first African American college professor in New England. Dr. Burstermann was the first chairperson of the elementary education department and was known as a consummate professional who gave her absolute best to her students. Awarded to an education major, preferably studying Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education, demonstrating academic promise and financial need.

Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA by March 1
